Johnson Could Make It Two Wins In A Row

My Preliminary Top Seven:
1. Carl Edwards - Kansas is the type of track he loves, finished 10th last year, average finish of 2.3 in three races on intermediate non-concrete races (Atlanta, Michigan, Chicago)
2. Jeff Gordon - average finish of 3.7 in the last three Kansas races, has finished out of the top 13 only once in his 9 career races here
3. Greg Biffle - average finish of 3.0 in the last two Kansas races and has led over 20% of the laps in those two, the only time he has finished outside of the top 12 here was in his first race, finished 3rd here last year after starting 31st
4. Jimmie Johnson - like it or not, it looks like Johnson is back. In the last two races here he has an average finish of 5.0 and has led over 33% of the laps
5. Tony Stewart - defending winner of this race, either finishes in the top five here or around 40th, two career wins here
6. Denny Hamlin - finished 5th here last year after starting 22nd, 8.0 average finished in the last two races,
7. A.J. Allmendinger - yes, A.J. Allmendinger. He has had very fast cars for the past month but hasn't been able to get the finish, in two career races here he has an average finish of 13.0, watch his practice speed

Sleeper of the Week: Paul Menard - had a great week last week and these types of tracks are where he can be very valuable, finished 10th at Chicago

Predictions: Dover 2 (Post Qualifying)

Load Up On Roush This Week

In May, Kyle Busch came away with the win, although it seemed like it was Jimmie Johnson's race to lose. Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, and David Reutimann rounded out the top five. Results from May can be found here. After last week's disaster, the 48 team is out for blood and started out by grabbing the pole on Friday. The starting lineup for Sunday's AAA 400 can be found here. Johnson won the pole on Friday. Starting lineups can be found here.

Jordan's Top Fifteen for the AAA 400:
Driver - Fantasy Price - Car - Starting Position

1. Matt Kenseth - $24.50 - #17 Crown Royal Ford - Starts 14th
Kenseth starting in the top fifteen? He has a good car. Kenseth fast in practice (4th in average speed)? He has a great car. He never shows his hand during practice, let alone qualifying, but when he's near the top in both of those, you know he has a good car. Here's something else to ponder: in the last five Dover races, Kenseth has finished in the top five in each race, with an average finish of 3.2.

2. Jimmie Johnson - $24.00 - #48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet - Starts 1st
Since 2008, JJ has led 877 laps at Dover. The second highest total in that span was 289 by Kyle Busch. Not only does he start up front, but Johnson's car has been great since they unloaded it. His average speed wasn't great (21st) but he was in the top ten in each practice in terms of fastest lap. He was also 3rd in each practice on the ten-lap average speed chart. I see Johnson improving his 6.0 average finish at Dover since 2008 and his 10.2 average career finish here this weekend. Remember: if a driver wins from the pole, you get an extra 20 points.

3. Denny Hamlin - $23.90 - #11 FedEx Express Toyota - Starts 4th
I rank Hamlin this high but exercise a word of caution after his on-track incident with Kevin Harvick. It didn't look like too much damage but it was enough to make the 11 team miss a significant amount of practice time. They ended up pretty good (9th in average speed) and Hamlin was in the top ten in both ten-lap average charts. Denny finished 4th here in May and if he doesn't get caught up in drama, I see no reason why a top five isn't out of the question.

4. Kurt Busch - $21.50 - #2 Miller Lite Dodge - Starts 8th
The older Busch brother has been pretty quiet all week with all the happenings going on around him. However, he has been consistently fast: the Blue Deuce was 13th in happy hour, 3rd in second practice, and 4th in average speed. "The Monster Mile" is also known as "Bristol on Steroids" and we all know Kurt's skill at the Tennessee track. His average career finish at Dover isn't stellar (19.6) but I have a good feeling about the Miller Lite Dodge this week.

5. Greg Biffle - $22.20 - #16 3M Ford - Starts 6th
Biffle has been great at Dover in his career (average finish of 10.5 with two wins) and so has Roush. The Biff starts up toward the front and was consistent in average practice speeds (7th overall and 9th in happy hour). In the past five races at Dover, Biffle has four top tens, which included a win, and his lowest finish was 13th. A top five is definitely possible for Greg this weekend.

6. Carl Edwards - $20.70 - #99 Aflac Ford - Starts 10th
With top 20s in each of the last five Dover races, and an average finish of 6.2, Cousin Carl looks like a very solid pick this week. One more thing: he's the hottest driver on the circuit right now, even though he hasn't won. Edwards finished 8th here in May after starting 9th, but has the speed this week to get a better result. He was 11th in average speed (overall) but 2nd in Happy Hour average speed. Will we see a backflip, finally?

7. Kyle Busch - $26.20 - #18 Interstate Batteries Toyota - Starts 11th
Shrub ran a bunch of laps throughout both practices, which may explain his low average speed (22nd overall). However, he won here in May and, while he don't look too fast, his teammates both look quick. Kyle has been either hit or miss at Dover lately (two wins, but three finishes of 23rd or worse). As usual, I'll tell you to use Kyle with caution, and his price may be a little too high to pull the trigger this week.

8. Jeff Gordon - $22.90 - #24 DuPont/Law Enforcement Museum Chevrolet - Starts 15th
It sure seems like Jeff Gordon's paint scheme is top news each week, from his daughter's creation to this week's Law Enforcement Museum paintjob. Jeff was real quick in Happy Hour average speed (5th), which I put more emphasis on this week than first practice, and he also had the quickest 10-lap average speed. I don't see him contending for the win, but a top ten wouldn't be surprising.

9. David Reutimann - $14.80 - #00 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota - Starts 17th
David Reutimann looks great this weekend, and coming off of his 7th place finish last week, he has momentum. He starts pretty deep, but finished 5th at Dover in May after starting 13th. I don't want to rate him too high, but another top five wouldn't surprise me one bit: the 00 topped the average practice speeds chart and had the 11th-best 10-lap average in Happy Hour. My sleeper pick of the week looks like a very solid option going into Sunday.

10. Martin Truex, Jr. - $19.30 - #56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota - Starts 3rd
Truex is doing just like he does every week: look phenomenal in practice. Throughout this season the #56 has been near the front of the average speed charts numerous times (2nd this week) but he can never finish. However, he rarely starts as well as he does this week. Truex's lone career win came at Dover, and nothing can cure an illness (he has been sick all weekend) better than a win. Michael Waltrip Racing's cars look incredibly fast this week, the question is just whether they can get the finish or not.

11. Jeff Burton - $21.80 - #31 Caterpillar Chevrolet - Starts 27th
Burton was 8th in 10-lap average speed in Happy Hour and ended up 26th on the average speed chart, which is normal because he never shows his hand. However, you can't argue with his past at Dover: three top tens in his last five races and an average career finish of 15.9. RCR doesn't impress me much this week, so be careful when making your roster.

12. Jamie McMurray - $16.40 - #1 McDonald's Chevrolet - Starts 7th
If you go off of ten-lap average speeds, Jamie Mac looks like the man to beat. He was 2nd in Happy Hour and had the best 10-lap average in first practice. Add in the 14th best average speed overall and a top ten is within his grasps. He starts up front but finished 32nd in May after starting 11th. McMurray has been doing the exact opposite of his past this entire season, and the way he has been running lately makes the #1 Chevy a pretty good pick in my mind.

13. Kevin Harvick - $27.00 - #29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet - Starts 33rd
He starts in the back and inflicted damage to his car by running into Hamlin in first practice; not the ideal situation to pick Happy Harvick. He ended up 8th in overall average speed (and 1st in Happy Hour average speed) and finished 7th here in May after starting 30th. Again, I'm not too high on RCR this week and Harvick isn't worth the price this week.

14. Joey Logano - $15.90 - #20 Home Depot Toyota - Starts 19th
Sliced Bread may not be too great here (22.3 average career finish) but he did collect his first top ten at Dover earlier this season. Joey ended up 10th in average speed and topped the practice chart in Happy Hour. There are better options in his price range (Reutimann) but if he fits into your roster, you should expect a top fifteen finish.

15. A.J. Allmendinger - $12.00 - #43 Insignia HDTV/Best Buy Ford - Starts 2nd
Since Kasey Kahne announced he was leaving Richard Petty Motorsports, it seems like A.J. has been getting the top equipment. However, he hasn't been able to get the finishes he deserves: in the past seven races, Allmendinger has an average starting position of 8.9 but an average finish of 16.3. He once again starts up front but doesn't look extremely fast (15th in average speed). A top fifteen is what I expect Allmendinger to claim this week, just like he did in May at Dover (14th).

On The Outside Looking In:

Paul Menard: Menard once again looks incredibly fast in practice (5th in average speed) and he starts 9th. Menard also posted very quick 10-lap averages in both practices. He may be able to crack the top fifteen but his history here shows that he will probably finish around 20th.

Marcos Ambrose: Dover is referred to as "Bristol on Steroids" and Ambrose has a very good record at Bristol. He starts 23rd but he knows how to save his brakes and stay in the race until the end. His first practice speeds were way off but the Tasmanian Devil was 16th in Happy Hour average speeds. He won't beat his career best average finish here (14th) but he could surprise some people.

Reed Sorenson: Sorenson said that this car is the best he's had in a while and went out and qualified 12th. He won't challenge for a win, let alone a top 10, but this could be the week to pick Reed. With as cheap as he is, you will be able to afford a few high-dollar guys, and if the 83 gets you a top 20 finish, that roster could win you some money.

Average Practice Speeds: Dover 2

Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin bumped heads during Saturday's first practice, causing damage to both cars and skewing their average practice speeds. My sleeper pick, David Reutimann, has looked incredibly fast all weekend. I wouldn't go a lot off of average speeds this week but they are something to look at.  Kasey Kahne had a very low first practice speed, which brought down his total average practice speeds. He looked good in Happy Hour so I'm not sure what the problem was in first practice.

Click on the links (underlined portions) to go to practice speed charts.

Top 5 for Practice Two:
1. David Reutimann
2. Kyle Busch
3. Kurt Busch
4. Juan Montoya
5. Jimmie Johnson

Top 5 for Happy Hour:
1. Joey Logano
2. Clint Bowyer
3. Jeff Burton
4. Matt Kenseth
5. Martin Truex, Jr.

10-Lap Average speeds are much more important than one fast lap. The top ten fastest at 10-lap averages in happy hour were:

1. Matt Kenseth
2. Joey Logano
3. Paul Menard
4. Denny Hamlin
5. Jeff Burton
6. David Reutimann
7. Carl Edwards
8. Kyle Busch
9. Jimmie Johnson
10. Brad Keselowski

Average speeds are calculated by taking the average speed of each driver in each practice and multiplying it by the number of laps ran. When you do this for each practice and add the two totals together, and then divide by the total number of laps ran, you get a pretty good indicator on who has a fast car. The order that they are in is the overall average speeds rank. In parenthesis after each driver will be their rank of average speed in Happy Hour, which may be more helpful since so many speeds were inaccurate in first practice.

1. David Reutimann @ 148.684 mph over 63 laps (7th in happy hour average speed)
2. Martin Truex, Jr. @ 148.676 mph over 48 laps (3rd in happy hour average speed)
3. Kurt Busch @ 148.447 mph over 76 laps (4th in happy hour average speed)
4. Matt Kenseth @ 148.215 mph over 93 laps (8th in happy hour average speed)
5. Paul Menard @ 148.159 mph over 84 laps (11th in happy hour average speed)
6. Scott Speed @ 148.062 mph over 55 laps (32nd in happy hour average speed)
7. Greg Biffle @ 148.044 mph over 98 laps (9th in happy hour average speed)
8. Kevin Harvick @ 147.973 mph over 64 laps (1st in happy hour average speed)
9. Denny Hamlin @ 147.970 mph over 71 laps (18th in happy hour average speed)
10. Joey Logano @ 147.967 mph over 94 laps (14th in happy hour average speed)
11. Carl Edwards @ 147.934 mph over 66 laps (2nd in happy hour average speed)
12. David Ragan @ 147.877 mph over 83 laps (27th in happy hour average speed)
13. Clint Bowyer @ 147.869 mph over 94 laps (24th in happy hour average speed)
14. Jamie McMurray @ 147.854 mph over 89 laps (12th in happy hour average speed)
15. A.J. Allmendinger @ 147.850 mph over 92 laps (23rd in happy hour average speed)
16. Elliott Sadler @ 147.832 mph over 54 laps (10th in happy hour average speed)
17. Mark Martin @ 147.816 mph over 98 laps (28th in happy hour average speed)
18. Brad Keselowski @ 147.812 mph over 77 laps (22nd in happy hour average speed)
19. Ryan Newman @ 147.781 mph over 83 laps (26th in happy hour average speed)

24. Reed Sorenson @ 147.526 mph over 60 laps (20th in happy hour average speed)
25. Marcos Ambrose @ 147.380 mph over 67 laps (16th in happy hour average speed)
26. Jeff Burton @ 147.256 mph over 118 laps (13th in happy hour average speed)

Fantasy Preview: Dover 2

Watch Roush Cars Carefully This Week
The Boys Return to "The Monster Mile"
My Preliminary Top Seven:
1. Kyle Busch - best average finish on similar tracks, won at Dover earlier this year, when he doesn't have problems he gets a top 5 here.
2. Matt Kenseth - average finish of 7.75 on similar tracks this year, 3rd earlier this year at Dover, career average finish here of 12.7, 5 top tens in his last 5 Dover starts
3. Greg Biffle - average finish of 10 on similar tracks this year, 6th in May at Dover, 5.2 average finish in last 5 Dover races, has won here twice with a career average finish of 10.5.
4. Jeff Burton - average finish of 9.0 on similar tracks, in the last 5 Dover races has an average finish of 10.2, finished second in May here.
5. Jimmie Johnson - average finish of 22.0 on similar tracks, has won two out of the last three here, 6.0 average finish in last three races at Dover.
6. Carl Edwards - average finish of 10.25 on similar tracks, hottest driver on the circuit (points wise), average finish of 6.20 in last 5 Dover starts, 8th here in May, average career finish of 7.9 at Dover.
7. Jeff Gordon - Average finish of 10.0 in similar tracks this year, 11.0 average finish in last 5 Dover races, four wins here and 21 top tens.

Sleeper of the Week: David Reutimann - finished 5th here in May and has been good on similar tracks this year (three out of the four races were top 11s).

Darlington and Bristol are similar to Dover and can help you with your fantasy picks this week. Along with average speeds, how drivers did at Darlington and Bristol (as well as Dover, obviously) will tell you who will probably be good on Sunday. Kyle Busch won here in May, finishing ahead of Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth. Last year, Jimmie Johnson won both Dover races. Here is the top ten average finishes this year of both Bristol races, the Darlington race, and the first Dover race:

1. Kyle Busch - average finish of 4.5 - top ten in all four races, two wins
2. Matt Kenseth - average finish of 7.75 - top ten in three out of the four races
3. Kurt Busch - average finish of 8.5 - top 10 in three out of the four races (13th in other)
4. Jeff Burton - average finish of 9.0 - top ten in three out of the four races (16th in other)
5. Kevin Harvick - average finish of 9.5 - top ten in two out of the four races (top 15 in all four)
6a. Greg Biffle - average finish of 10.0 - top ten in three out of the four races (22nd in other)
6b. Jeff Gordon - average finish of 10.0 - top ten in one out the four races (top 15 in all four)
8. Carl Edwards - average finish of 10.25 - top ten in two out of the four races (top 15 in all four)
9. Ryan Newman - average finish of 11.0 - top ten in two out of the four races (13th and 16th in others)
10. Jamie McMurray - average finish of 11.25 - top ten in three out of the four races (32nd in other)

Average Speeds Once Again Show A Lot

Like I predicted before the race, average speeds pretty much was a telling sign on how the race would end. There were a few surprises, but if you guessed well enough you missed them and could have easily had a great week. I feel sorry for everyone who had Stewart (I did, too).

FourtyEight 5 had the best week overall with 923 points. He had Hamlin, Bowyer, McMurray, Montoya, Reutimann, and Allmendinger. Congratulations to him.

Onto Dover! Practice setup will be normal again this week, and average speeds will be a good indicator.. First practice is on Friday, followed by qualifying on ESPN2. There will be two practices on Saturday where all teams will be working on race setups.

1. Clint Bowyer @ 128.686 mph over 72 laps
Finished 1st. Stayed up front all day.
2. Jimmie Johnson @ 128.440 mph over 101 laps

Finished 25th. Had a top ten car but a loose wheel ruined their day.
3. Kasey Kahne @ 128.232 mph over 86 laps
Finished 14th. Didn't come on until late in the race.
4. Juan Montoya @ 128.227 mph over 50 laps

Finished 16th. Stayed up front for a while but fell back.
5. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. @ 128.206 mph over 81 laps

Finished 4th. Charged to the front and stayed there.
6. Jamie McMurray @ 128.190 mph over 91 laps

Finished 3rd. Top five car all day.
7. Martin Truex, Jr. @ 128.149 mph over 70 laps

Finished 20th. As usual, his average practice speeds were a fluke.
8. Denny Hamlin @ 128.111 mph over 100 laps

Finished 2nd. I thought he finished better than what his car was.
9. A.J. Allmendinger @ 128.080 mph over 78 laps

Finished 12th. Ran out of fuel while running in the top 5. Fought back all race.
10. Mark Martin @ 128.059 mph over 81 laps

Finished 29th.
11. Kevin Harvick @ 128.009 mph over 65 laps

Finished 5th. Not the best car out there, but got the finish.
12. Tony Stewart @ 128.003 mph over 94 laps

Finished 24th. Ran out of gas with one lap remaining and with the lead.
13. Joey Logano @ 127.996 mph over 84 laps

Finished 35th. Not very good all day and then got into a wreck.
14. Greg Biffle @ 127.996 mph over 84 laps

Finished 17th. Didn't hear much about him all day.
15. Sam Hornish, Jr. @ 127.948 mph over 84 laps

Finished 10th. Solid, surprising race.
16. Kurt Busch @ 127.893 mph over 81 laps

Finished 9th. Right where he started.
19. David Reutimann @ 127.707 mph over 73 laps

Finished 7th. Solid race all day, was in the top ten for most of it.
20. Paul Menard @ 127.700 mph over 95 laps

Finished 28th. Got in a wreck early.
21. Marcos Ambrose @ 127.652 mph over 61 laps

Finished 30th.
22. Carl Edwards @ 127.644 mph over 86 laps

Finished 11th. Ran with the leaders for some of the day.
23. Jeff Gordon @ 127.640 mph over 70 laps

Finished 6th. Came on strong at the end. Looked dismal all day.
